Historical Roots of the Wrangler Series
The Jeep Wrangler goes back to the 1940s during World War II. The US Army asked a handful of car manufacturers to build a small and powerful four-wheel drive vehicle to be used as a recon vehicle on battlefields. The contract went to Willys, who began building the Willys MB. Back in the US, the popularity of the MB skyrocketed and it was clear that this could be more than an Army vehicle.
The first commercial version of the MB, dubbed the CJ, was manufactured in 1945. In another first, it was the world’s first mass-produced four-wheel drive vehicle. Production continued until 1986. Over those 41 years, Jeep manufactured over 1.5 million CJ units.
The Jeep Wrangler was introduced at the 1986 Chicago auto show. It wasn’t a direct replacement of the CJ, but it kept many of the elements that made the original so popular, including the body-on-frame design, open top, and solid axles.
The 2024 Wrangler: A Closer Look at the Evolution of Design and Interior Features
On the Outside
The 2024 Jeep Wrangler has some refreshed features that make the classic look modern. These include a newly-redesigned seven-slot grille that draws inspiration from the 20th anniversary edition of the Jeep Rubicon. More than just good looks, this design provides more airflow to the powertrain.
The exterior also features a short, trail-ready antenna so it never gets hung up on branches while you’re off-roading. You’ll have ten new standard and optional wheel designs to choose from, with tire sizes ranging from 32 to 35 inches.
Express yourself and stand out with one of Jeep’s 11 exterior colors, including Anvil (new, gray), Bikini (new, deep turquoise), Earl, Firecracker Red, Granite Crystal, Silver Zynith, High Velocity, Hydro Blue, Sarge, Bright White, and Black.
And it’s not a Jeep without the signature top! For 2024, there’s a new standard premium soft-top, two available hard tops in either black or the body color, or the exclusive Sky One-Touch power top. Hard tops are available with Sunrider and the dual-door group with half doors means there are dozens of different door, top and windshield combinations for you to create the Jeep of your dreams!

Inside the Jeep Wrangler, you’ll find cutting-edge tech and comfort features to make every drive your best yet.
The available Uconnect® 5 System–with available Uconnect® 5 NAV–boasts a 12.3-inch touchscreen, the largest in its class. Bluetooth connectivity, 4G LTW Wi-Fi hotspot, USB Type A & C ports, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto ensure you’re always connected.
For the first time, the front seats of the Wrangler have been engineered with 12-way power. The front seats are also heated, ensuring you and your passenger are always comfortable! The heated steering wheel and automatic temperature control round out the standard comfort features in the 2024 Wrangler.
Upgrade the interior with the available premium cabin package. This includes sound dampening features like acoustic front glass, thicker carpet and sound deadening foam in the windshield header, front cowl and B-pillars. You’ll also get two integrated dash mounts for your GPS and/or camera.
Performance Upgrades
This off-road icon got even more adventure-ready features in 2024. Higher ground clearance and underbody skid plates allow you to tackle almost any trail, while the high air intake, sealed electrical connections and moisture-resistant body openings means you can easily take on up to 34 inches of water. It’s safe to say Jeep worked hard to earn the Trail Rated badge.
Jeeps are known for their traction, and the 2024 Wrangler is no exception. When you’re in 4x4 High, you’ll experience a 50/50 split of torque to the front and rear axles. Superior suspension and axle articulation ensure maximum traction over any obstacle.
When you’re off-road, maneuverability is key. In the 2024 Wrangler, you can easily navigate tight trails or maneuver around rocks or fallen logs with the precision steering system and high-performance wheelbases. Upgrading to larger tires makes this even easier.
And for the first time, Wrangler drivers can get full-float axles, which are typically only found on heavy-duty commercial trucks. Their first full-float rear axle design consists of a wheel hub assembly separate from the axle shaft, with a spindle bolted to the axle tube that supports the wheel hub via a pair of wheel bearings.
You can choose from four engines:
- PHEV Electric Powertrain - Available on 4xe models, the PHEV electric powertrain allows you to save on gas without sacrificing performance.
- 3.6L Pentastar V6 Engine - Available with either a manual transmission or automatic transmission, this legendary engine features Engine Stop/Start technology, impressive efficiency, and reliable power.
- 6.4L Hemi V8 Engine - This available class-exclusive V8 is a force to be reckoned with. It offers Best-in-Class maximum horsepower and torque for ultimate adventuring.
- 2.0L Turbo Engine - For outstanding off-road performance, choose the available 2.0L Turbo engine with up to 295 pound-feet of torque.
